Resolution: Have confidence in God
By Apostle Frederick K.C. Price

If you gain anything as a believer this new year, my hope is that you gain more confidence in the Lord. Day by day, year by year, as you lean on Him and watch Him work in your life and realize how true He is to His Word, your confidence should grow.

Once you know you can trust Him, there will be nothing too hard for you to accomplish in your life. Your self-esteem will be heightened, not because of you, but because of Him in you. With Him, you really are somebody.

As you pray, study and act on God's Word, and rely totally on Him, you will receive God's best. You will receive the promises that He has given you.

As Hebrews 10:35-36 says:

Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.

For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:

Once you begin to trust Him, don’t throw away your confidence. Have confidence that what God has said will come to pass.

The will of God would be whatever the conditions are, relative to what you are praying about. For instance, dealing with the prayer of faith in Mark 11:24, the conditions are, when you pray, believe that you receive whatever it is that you are praying for, and you shall have it. If two of you (like a husband and wife) are going to pray together, then you would use another rule. You would appeal to Matthew 18:19:

". . . if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven."

The rule would be that the two of you have to agree. One cannot believe south and the other believe north. If you are not in agreement, you will get nothing from God.

It is amazing how much patience we can have in the natural, but when it comes to the things of God, we want everything instantaneously. If I had not been patient with a lot of things over the years, much of the success of my ministry would not have come to pass. I could have given up, but I chose to stand on God's Word, come hell or high water. As a result, God honored the stand of faith I took, and many lives have been changed for the better as a result of not giving up.

1 John 5:14:

Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

The etymological meaning of confidence is "assurance, or trust." When you have confidence in someone, that means you can trust the person. If you read the Bible, you can learn about the will of God, because the will of God is the Word of God. If you are going to a church that does not use or teach the Bible, you have been going to the wrong church. It doesn’t matter if Grandma went to that church, or your great uncle was one of the founding fathers of the church. Are you going to stay in a church because you have been going there all your life, even though you are not receiving any understanding of God's Word? Are you going to stay there simply because of your relatives?

Do you want to better yourself? Why will you try to better yourself? Why not stay in poverty just like some of your relatives and forefathers? If you want to better yourself, you are going to have to know the will of God. And to know the will of God, you are going to have to know the Word of God.

Genesis 12:1:

Now the Lord had said to Abram: "Get out of your country, from your family and from your father's house, to a land that I will show you."

A word to the wise: If you have been in a church for 20 years and you have not learned anything, like Abraham, God is calling you out from your father's house, as it were, and over to a land that flows with milk and honey. Separate yourself and be obedient to the Spirit of God if He is telling you to make a move.

It can be an awesome thing to leave a situation where you are part of a denomination. I was part of a church that had about 44 other churches within our district. It is a feeling of security, in a sense, to belong to a group or an organization. I remember when God called me to go out by myself, no connection with any denomination, nobody to talk to, nobody to lean on except the leaning post – God Almighty.

Make the Decision to Obey God

I had to make the decision to be obedient, and to sever myself from that old environment, to go out into a land I did not know anything about. I did not know what was out there, but I knew that God was a citadel of protection and redemption. And I knew God was my high tower. So, I have empathy for   people who are in similar situations. It’s a hard struggle to pull away, even though they know when they hear the truth, the Word of God. But remember, it was not until Abraham left the security of that home environment that he could move out into the things God wanted for him.

When I look back over the decision I made, I am so glad I listened to the Spirit of God. In the natural, it is with fear and trepidation that you make such a move, a move where you will have to depend strictly on God. However, in order to become confident in God, you may have to make some hard decisions. You will never develop that confidence until you step out on His Word and on His will.

You might feel terrified. But feelings have nothing to do with honoring and obeying God's Word and doing His will. You don’t have to feel anything. It’s just a matter of taking God at His Word. Find out His will and start praying His will. How do you do that? Just pray the Word. It works so smoothly – no more straining, no more struggling, no more pleading, and no more begging God. Just speak the Word. Pray the Word.

1 John 5:15:

And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

We know that we have is present tense, just like "Whatever things you ask when you pray . . . . "

For years, I could not figure out why I didn’t get anything I prayed for. But when I learned the principle in First John 5:15, I began to examine myself, and it suddenly dawned on me why I was in desperate need. I had prayed and I pleaded with God and cried with tears. When I look back on it now, I realize why I didn’t get anything. I never one time ever believed I received anything! I was waiting to believe it when it came. It is very important for us to understand our place in God, and how to operate in the fullness of the Covenant.

The Duality of Existence

Are there any benefits, any wonderful results of receiving Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord? Yes, but you have to receive Him first by faith to get the results.

We need to realize that when God tells us to believe that we receive what we pray for, it is because what we are praying for is already in existence in the spirit world. By believing we receive what we pray for causes that thing to come out of the spirit world into this physical world. I like to refer to this as the duality of existence. Everything exists in two forms – first, in spirit form, then in physical manifestation form. It is faith that makes the transfer from the spirit world into the physical world.

Your healing is there, your new home is there, your new car is there, peace is there, and deliverance for your children is there. But you have to reach out into that spirit world and claim your Covenant by saying, "In the name of Jesus, I believe that I receive it." Maintain that confession, keep standing by faith on God's Word, and the thing you are believing for will come to pass in your life.

Learning and acting on that principle has brought us to many victories over the past two decades. My confidence is strong in the Lord now. I look with a sense of joyful anticipation that that will transpire through our ministry in a greater way in the coming years. More immediately, I'm looking to feed more sheep and lambs, and help them achieve more victories in the things of God. I hope you share in my excitement about the things of God in your life, as well.
