The Faithfulness of God
BOOK REVIEW

It is difficult, if not impossible, to find a book by Apostle Frederick K.C. Price where faith is not at least mentioned. In fact, faith is the only subject of several of his books.

To Apostle Price, the Christian life revolves around faith. He variously defines faith as acting on what you believe or acting on the Word of God.

His television broadcast, which has been shown nationwide and around the world for decades, is called Ever Increasing Faith.

The 10,000-seat sanctuary he built on 30 acres in the middle of South Los Angeles is called the FaithDome.

Some of his many associates have termed him The Godfather of Faith.

Faith is in Apostle Price’s DNA.

And he must be on to something.  He’s been teaching faith for many years, and there can be little doubt that it has worked for him. In Los Angeles, you’d be hard-pressed to find a sanctuary that is larger, or a minister with a bigger name.

His best-selling book is titled How Faith Works. But there are other books on the subject, such as:

Faith’s Greatest Enemies

How to Obtain Strong Faith

Five Little Foxes of Faith

Faith, Foolishness, or Presumption

And, of course, the book being reviewed in this newsletter, titled The Faithfulness of God, which begins this way:

“Exercising faith in His Word is the way God has planned for His children to receive the benefits made available to them through Christ’s redemptive work on Calvary?”

He continues: “When I use the word faith, I am not talking about a denomination. I have heard people ask, ‘What faith are you – Protestant, Catholic or Jew?’  The Bible never uses the word faith in that context. Bible faith has to do with the God kind of life and the way we live!”

He cites First Timothy 6:12, which says:

Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life . . . .

“We see from this verse that we are in a fight, but it is not a church fight, or a denominational or theological fight – it is a faith fight.

He cites Hebrews 11:6, which says:

But without faith it is impossible to please Him . . . .

“Think about the enormity of this statement,” he writes.  “No one can please God without faith! This tells us that faith is all-important, and we, as Christians, need to be people of faith!

“So far, we have found out that . . . Christians are to live by faith.  Secondly, we are to fight the good fight of faith, and thirdly we are told that without faith it is impossible to please God.”

Apostle Price believes one of the reasons many church people have so little faith is because they have little or no knowledge of spiritual matters. And that is because most denominational churches are not Bible-oriented.

“Where there is no hearing or giving of knowledge there can be no believing, because the Bible says: Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.

Apostle Price has constantly taught that faith is based on knowledge or, more precisely, on what God has said.  “However, there is another kind of knowledge that is as important as knowing what God has said. He identifies that “second kind of knowledge” as the kind that faith is built on, which is “the reliability and trustworthiness of the . . .  of the one who gives His Word or makes a promise.”

“Some believers have absolutely no knowledge, because they have been trying to do everything in their own abilities. They go to church and give lip service to God.  . . . But when it comes to the issues of life, they use their own smarts because they have no information about the character of God or His trustworthiness.”

In Chapter 2, he discusses a person who went from a faith level of zero to be included in the “hall of fame of heroes of faith” that is mentioned in the eleventh chapter of Hebrews. He cites Hebrews 11:11:

Through faith also Sara herself also received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

“Notice what this verse does not say,” he cautions. “It does not say, through faith Sara received seed . . .  It says ‘through faith Sara herself . . . .’ ” Sara did it herself!

Sarah had knowledge of what God said about her having a child when she was past childbearing age.  That was one of the things on which her faith stood. The second was that she judged Him faithful . . . .

Apostle Price points out that the verse says nothing about Sara’s husband, “faithful Abraham.” Sara did it herself “because she had God’s promise, which was knowledge about what God had said, and she had knowledge about the character and faithfulness and reliability of the One who said it.”

How much more does anyone need? There are four more chapters and much more to enjoy in this thin volume.

As the second Corinthians 5:7 says, We walk (live) by faith, not by sight.
