The Thanksgiving season is here and it is one of the most important times of the year. Our Heavenly Father expects us to be grateful and to give Him thanks, credit, praise and glory for all that He has done!
For those of us who live in America, we have a level of freedom to worship the Lord in public that many around the world do not enjoy – and we need to be thankful. We do not fear the secret police knocking on our door to arrest us. We do not have to worry about a government officer putting a gun to our head and demanding that we renounce Jesus. These are the works of the devil and Jesus came to destroy his works.
Jesus described the devil and his works in John 10:10: “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” Render unto God the things that are God’s and render unto satan the things that he has done. Stop blaming God for the things that the devil is doing.
Do we have much to be thankful for? Certainly, the answer is yes! Despite that, many Christians are not thankful. That places us in a very dangerous position. The path to ruin for individuals or any society often begins with being ungrateful. The Apostle Paul wrote, “Although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.” (Romans 1:21) Being unthankful blinds us to the truth and produces devastating results in our lives.
Each time we stop and offer our gratitude to Our Heavenly Father, we bring honor and glory to Him and protection for our lives and futures. Thanksgiving, not just the day but also an attitude, is essential to healthy, productive and godly lives. One of the ways in which we express gratitude and thankfulness is through our giving. When we give back to God from the resources He has provided, we show our appreciation of His goodness towards us.
