How to Obtain Strong Faith: Six Principles

By Stanley O. Williford

Here is advice at a great bargain for those whose faith is weak but whose goal is to have their faith strengthened.

Can you believe for such a goal? Apostle Frederick K.C. Price asked in his book, “How to Obtain Strong Faith: Six Principles.”

“Thank God. That’s where I am,” he wrote.

He was not bragging. He had the goods to prove it. He established Crenshaw Christian Center church with a membership that at one point soared above 22,000, and he built the world-renowned 10,000-seat FaithDome, and headed a world renowned ministry.

“I didn’t say that I am perfect,” he wrote. “No! But I praise God that I want to exercise strong faith. I know how to do it because God’s Word tells me how, and I want to share it with you.”

There are principles to that goal. The first principle that Apostle Price cited was this: You must Know the Reality of the Word of God.

“You see,” he wrote, “God’s Word won’t do you any good while it’s on the pages of the Bible. God’s Word must rise off the pages . . . and enter your spirit (into your heart) before it will do you any good. .  . .   You have to get God’s Word off that page and into your spirit.”

Although many Christians believe the Bible, “but they don’t know the reality of that Word in their own lives because they have never acted upon God’s Word. They have never lived in God’s Word,” Apostle Price wrote.

“Too many Christians are trying to educate their minds first, and then let their minds educate their spirits. That is not the way God works.  God works through the spirit of man.  When man’s spirit is brought into the right relationship with God, and when man’s spirit is fed properly on the Word of God, then man’s spirit will educate man’s mind and man’s mind will bring man’s body into subjections to the will of God.”

“God’s Word can impart to us spiritual life because the Word is alive.  Too many Christians have very little regard for the reality of the living Word of God.  If they really did [have regard], every time the doors of the church were opened it would be packed and jammed, for you know that God’s Word says, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is . . . (Hebrews 10:25).”

“Do you want to know how to love God?  Here is the secret. You have to love His Word.”

John 14:21-24 says:

"He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him."

Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?

Jesus answered and said unto him, "If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me."

In the Greek [language] the word keep doesn’t mean what you think it means. . . .  The word keep is an action word that means to do it.  It means to do God’s Word.  If you are not doing God Word, Jesus says you don’t love Him.”

The second principle is you must Know the Reality of Your Redemption in Christ.

As a Christian, “You are not in the process of being redeemed,” he wrote.  “You are not going to be redeemed off in the distant future, in the sweet by and by . . . .  If you have been born again, you are redeemed now.

“Until you know that as a fact, as a reality, deep down in your own heart, you will never be possessed of strong faith.  You will never be able to rise on the wings of strong faith and fly above the difficulties and the problems that surround you day by day. If you can learn to understand that Christ has made you free, you don’t have to get free; you don’t have to ask anybody to set you free:  you are free in Christ, then you are on your way to strong faith.”

“Too many Christians are living downstairs in the cellar when they ought to be living in the penthouse.  He [God} wants you in the penthouse, and if you don’t live there, that’s on you.”

The third principle is Know the Reality of the New Creation.

. . . you must know the fact that you have been made a new creature. [Many Christians] live below their rightful privileges in Christ, because they do not understand or realize that they have been made new creatures. They think they are still the way they used to be.

Rather than seeing themselves as they were before getting saved, they need to see themselves as God sees them, Apostle Price wrote.

“You should not see yourself as Satan sees you. You should not see yourself as other men see you, but only as God sees you. Until you learn to see yourself as God sees you, you will never be able to obtain strong faith.”

The Word of God says this about those who come to Christ. According to Second Corinthians 5:17:

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold all things are become new.
