The Bible tells of an cataclysmic event that began long before mankind as we know it came into being. Let’s start at Isaiah 14:12-15, which reads:

“How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations!

For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of god; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north;

I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’

Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, the lowest depths of the Pit.”

First, let’s decipher what this created being, whom we know as Satan, is saying when he says I will exalt my throne above the stars of God.

In this mini-book titled The Origin of Satan, Apostle Price clarifies what Satan seems to mean:

“In the Bible there are times when the word star figuratively means ‘angel.’ Here Satan was saying that he would exalt his throne above the other angels of God. He also said he would ascend above the heights of the clouds. Clouds are in the first heaven or atmosphere, and to view them you must on the earth.

“These verses tell us first that Satan had a throne: you don’t need a throne if you’re not a king or steward of a kingdom. Secondly, he said he’d exalt his throne above the stars of God.  In order to ‘exalt above’ you must be in a position that’s beneath what you’re trying to exalt yourself above. Ezekiel 28:11-19 gives us insight from a different angle:

Here’s what God said about him in Ezekiel 28:13-17.

You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanships of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created.

“You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked back and forth in the midst of the fiery stones.

“You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you.

“By the abundance of your trading you became filled with violence within, and you sinned; therefore I cast you as a profane thing out of the mountain of God; and I destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the fiery stones.

“Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor; I cast you to the ground, I laid you before kings, that they might gaze at you.”

There is so much more, but you get the idea. Satan was a bad actor who thought he had more power than he did. In fact, he thought he could rise above the throne of God.

Satan already had a position of great authority, but as the old folk used to say: He got too big for his britches.

Apostle Price writes:

So Satan, who at that time was called Lucifer, “was the God of the earth,” but “he fell into pride and as a result was kicked out of heaven with a third of the angels accompanying him.”

The name Lucifer means light bearer and morning star. He was a four-winged, walking orchestra/jewelry display. Unfortunately, though, iniquity was found in him and as a result of that he was cast out of the mountain of God.

Apostle Price discusses two theories in this book. One is the Genesis Gap Theory, which includes Satan’s expulsion from heaven and involves millions of years, during which dinosaurs roamed the earth. The other is called the creationist theory, “which says that earth, from Adam until now is without a doubt only 6,000 years old.”

This is a small book – a mini-book – but it packs a punch, and is well worth the reading.
