Dear Friend,

Lately, we’ve been hearing the term, "our thoughts and prayers are with you." What exactly does this mean? What are "thoughts and prayers?" Does Our Heavenly Father respond to this saying? If so, what constitutes a thought and or a prayer? Does God answer thoughts, like we know He answers prayers?

It is important for us, the Body of Christ, to know how to pray, when to pray and what to expect when we pray. We need to answer for ourselves the questions I just mentioned. Are we just saying words when we say, “our thoughts and prayers are with you,” or do we really believe that Our Heavenly Father hears and answers us when we say the thoughts and prayers thing?

What we know about Our Heavenly Father is that He keeps His word. He never lies. When He says the faithful fervent prayers of a righteous man avails much, He means it. But what about the thought?

I can only assume it is a man-made saying and as such, maybe we shouldn’t say it. We could, however say, “I’m praying for you” brother or sister and follow up with praying for the person. At the very least, if you tell someone they are in your thoughts and prayers, actually think about them and pray for them. How many times have you told someone that you were going to pray for them and for whatever reason, you never did? If they died, you’d feel awful. Just stop at that moment in time and pray out loud for that person and add your faith to their faith, in agreement with them and it’s done, you’ve actually prayed for them. You’ll feel better and when the manifestation of the prayer comes to pass, the person prayed for will be eternally grateful.

Why is prayer so important? God wants a relationship with His children and prayer is a means of communicating with Our Heavenly Father. Prayer combined with faith in the word of God, is a channel through which His power can be released to meet our needs, allowing Him to get involved in the circumstances of our lives.
When we pray, we should expect to get answers. Prayer is not a game where you take as great a chance of losing as you do of winning. Every time we go before God in prayer, we win (we get an answer) if we are praying correctly. Most people have not been taught how to pray correctly. They believe they can say anything in any way and it will function as prayer. This is not so. There is a real lack of understanding of how prayer operates and because of this, God continues to be accused of things He had nothing to do with.

There are different kinds of prayer for different kinds of circumstances and each kind of prayer has its own spiritual rules that govern it.

Mark 11:24 is the scripture that governs the Prayer of Faith. This prayer is a petition to God for you. "Therefore, I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them." Jesus did not say that you would receive something that resembled what you prayed for. No! He said you would get whatever you ask.

Decide what you want and then find Scripture that promises you that thing. Then once you pray you must believe that you received it. As Christians we can expect to receive the promises of God if we pray according to God’s word.

The reality is that many people today have a view of prayer that does not line up with what God says in His word. One of the main callings of Our Heavenly Father on Ever Increasing Faith Ministries is to teach His children how to live according to His principles. When we replace the counterfeits the enemy offers with the truth, amazing things happen!
