Living in Victory - Stronger Together
October 2026

Dear Friend:

Greetings in the matchless name of Jesus!

In light of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, my heart is grieved each time I counsel someone who has experienced domestic abuse.

The National Library of Medicine reported that “Family and domestic violence is a common problem in the United States.” They went on to say, “Domestic and family violence includes economic, physical, sexual, emotional, and psychological abuse of children, adults, or elders. Domestic violence causes worsened psychological and physical health, decreased quality of life, decreased productivity, and in some cases, mortality. Domestic and family violence can be difficult to identify. Many cases are not reported to health professionals or legal authorities…”

The wounds of abuse can run far deeper than what is visible on the surface. Emotional, psychological, and spiritual scars can leave a person feeling fractured, fearful, and disconnected from their sense of safety and self worth.
LOVE GIFT
This is especially heartbreaking when children and youth are involved. Their developing hearts and minds can be profoundly shaped by the trauma they experience, and the spiritual wounds that accompany abuse should never be overlooked. As followers of Jesus Christ, we must be willing to recognize not only the physical and emotional consequences of abuse, but also the spiritual battles that can arise in the aftermath of trauma.

Yet even in the midst of such brokenness, there is hope. God draws near to the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds! He restores what has been shattered and reminds us that abuse does not define a person’s identity nor determine their future. As the Body of Christ, we are called to be a safe place of compassion, truth, healing, and restoration for those who have suffered in silence.

During this month of awareness, may we become more attentive to those who are hurting, more courageous in speaking against abuse, and more committed to reflecting the heart of Christ toward every survivor who needs to know: You are not alone, you are not forgotten, and your story does not end with what was done to you.
