The Price of Love

What a wonderful time CCC members had as a day of celebration was shown towards Angela, Cheryl and Stephanie who were honored by CCC for their outstanding work, endless love and skillful talents in operating Crenshaw Christian Center in support of their dad Apostle Frederick Price.

The entire service was set aside and dedicated to honoring Angela Price Evans, Cheryl Price and Stephanie Price Buchanan. There were so many wonderful surprises. Highlights below:

Pastor Al Harvey was here from St Louis Christian Center to host the event.

Many priceless moment videos from sent from around the world to congratulate the ladies on a job well done, including CCC, CCC East, Dr. Michael and Mrs. Freeman of Spirit of Faith Christian Center and Bishop Wiley Jackson of Gospel Tabernacle.

There was a dramatic presentation by Dierdre Weston, musical tributes by Helen Baylor, Shelly Penir and Gerry Mitchell and our very own CCC Choir got into the groove with a gospel medley.

Grammy Award winning singer and Oscar Nominee James Ingram thrilled each of them with “Yah Mo Be There”

The Betty R. Price Counseling Center
A New Pilot Counseling Program For Crenshaw Christian Center Members
By Daniella Masterson

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
— John 14:27

Housing foreclosures.  Unemployment. Marital infidelity or loss of a loved one.  How is a believer to keep their peace of mind?

On March 29th, CCC launched the Betty R. Price Counseling Center to offer a safe and caring environment to help members overcome mounting emotional and familial issues.

The Betty R. Price Counseling Center is a unique pilot program that will offer integrative care for the Spirit, Soul (mind) and Body. CCC Pastors will work with licensed clinicians to treat the total person because research shows that counselees are more responsive to tripartite care since we are three-part beings.

The counseling services are free and will be made available to CCC members only. The counseling center will be opened from Monday through Friday in the Pastoral Department located in the Alpha Building. In order to begin counseling, people must call (323) 758-3777 ext. 4194 to set up an appointment.

“The pilot program is different than the counseling services that we’ve offered in the past,” said Gail Riley, a CCC Minister and a Marriage Family Therapist (MFT) who is spearheading the program. “Integrated counseling wasn’t a ministry core value to offer previous to now.”

“We have offered counseling services, but it wasn’t ongoing. Now we will offer short-term therapy and follow up sessions with pastors using spiritual counseling and clinicians who will use such modalities as reality therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy and relational life therapy. Everything will be kept confidential.”

Minister Riley said the pastoral staff is committed to the Old and New Testaments as the only rule of faith and practice. By offering integrated care, counselees can get the prescribe therapy required as they are restored to a loving Heavenly Father within the framework of the Church.

“We believe ultimate healing comes from the Word, but some people need the extra counseling so they can use the Word of God and therapeutic modalities for healing and restoration,” said Minister Riley.

Gone are the days when receiving counseling was a social stigma. If you or someone you love is experiencing a particularly trying time maybe it’s time to consider seeking help.

Below are the participating pastors and some of their counseling topics they’ll cover but not limited to:

Pastor L. Craig Hays – Seniors and Family Counseling

Minister Gail Riley, MFT – Communications, Developing Positive Self-esteem and Interpersonal Relationships

Pastor Robert Bolden – Biblical Prosperity, AIDS and HIV support, Male Personal Development

Minister Alice Grier – Marital Relationships

Dr. Delores Jones – Grief, Depression and Domestic Violence

Pastor Robert Cummings – Nutrition, Addiction, and Physical Fitness (also leads the Alcohol, Drugs and Abuse Program on Wednesday at 7:30 pm in the Fellowship Center)

Spotlight on Monday Night Bible Study

Most people know about Crenshaw Christian Center’s Tuesday night Bible Study, but Monday nights Bible Study is back at 7:30 pm in the Main Auditorium.

The service was discontinued for about two years, but in an effort to meet the needs of the congregation, the ministry is offering more options.

Dr. Deloris Jones will be teaching during the month of April.  Her topic of study will be:
"A Healthy Mind is the Doorway to a Healthy Body” which will be based on the foundational scripture Proverbs 23:7 which says “For as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.”

“The Holy Spirit directed me to this subject matter,” said Dr. Jones. “The mind is like a computer and must be programmed and fed vital up to date information.”

Dr. Jones feels that Believers must constantly renew their minds because it’s the gateway to the spirit.   Since Satan is always at work trying to trick and deceive the Believer through negative thoughts, ideals and suggestions, Dr. Jones will help us keep our minds sharp with this month-long study.

Make sure you take the time to visit our great Monday night Bible Study.

The teaching schedule for the rest of the year on Monday nights:

May – Pastor L. Craig Hays
June – Pastor Robert Bolden
July – Minister Alice Gier
August – Pastor Robert Cummings
September – Dr. Delores Jones
October – Pastor L. Craig Hays
November – Pastor Robert Bolden
December - Minister Alice Gier

CCC Member Sings at New York’s Lincoln Center
By Gertrude Bradley

Anyone who has ever been to New York City knows that adventure should be expected. I have been many times and no two experiences are the same. This time I performed at Lincoln Center in the Avery Fisher Hall, in a concert called "From Sea to Shining Sea" on March 21, 2010”

I am a member of the Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers. We performed an intricate, six-song medley, all acappella, and all African American composed/arranged. I am proud to say that I had the solo on the last segment of the suite, a spiritual called “Crossing Over”. The audience responded with a standing ovation. Following that we joined our voices with two other large choirs, The Blackhawk Chorus directed by Diane Gilfether and the Kinchen Chorus directed by James Kinchen. Both choirs performance preceded the Jubilee Singers. We sang two pieces en masse but that New York audience still demanded more. We conceded to the encore, and sang “Walk Together Children,” on which two other Jubilee ladies and I sang solos. It was fun and thrilling.

Two days of rehearsals preceding the performance were in the Rose building that houses the Julliard School. The Metropolitan Opera and New York Lyric Opera houses were right across the street…a Mecca for classical performers! Only 13 out of 30 Jubilee Singers were chosen for this endeavor. I consider it an honor to be chosen because the group is billowing with talent.

Surely a man’s gift does make room for him and brings him before great men. I wanted to participate in the big celebration at our church on March 21st honoring Angela, Cheryl and Stephanie, but the Lord made use of me in New York that day. I send my heartfelt congratulations and love to those ladies. Your glorious day was well deserved…and mine wasn’t too bad either.

AGAINST THE ODDS
Price wins state basketball crown
By MICHAEL EVANS

LOS ANGELES --- The Price High varsity boy’s basketball team achieved another milestone in a litany of milestones, March 26, at the Rabobank Arena in Bakersfield, Calif., vanquishing St. Mary’s High School of Albany, 69-51, winning the CIF Division IV State title for the sixth time.
There is one major footnote:  This state championship came in Division IV, a tougher category than Division V, in which the Knights triumphed five times previously. The victory also marked the 10th straight year in which the Knights have advanced to the CIF regional championships.

The championship play by the Knights has been nothing less than a "David" versus "Goliath" story, in which a school with a student body less than 100, triumphs against larger schools with student bodies in excess of 2,000 kids.

Such a small school has had its drawbacks. It has a very limited sports program, no baseball, limited track and only an eight-man football team. But, the standout for the school has been its basketball program.

Head coach, Michael Lynch, a former Los Angeles Police officer, gradually put together a complement of competitive players with a winning formula, demanding the utmost respect of his players.  Lynch’s philosophy was, "if a player didn’t practice, he didn’t play. If a player didn’t do well in school, he didn’t play." The boys wanted to play and so they performed in the classroom and made all the practices.

PRICE HIGH SCHOOL STANDOUT NAMED GATORADE® CALIFORNIA BOYS BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

In its 25th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with ESPN RISE, announced Allen Crabbe of FKCP III High School as their 2009-10 Gatorade California Boys Basketball Player of the Year!

This prestigious award recognizes not only commendable athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the basketball court.

The 6’ 6”, 200-pound senior guard led the FKCP III Knights basketball team to a (32-3) season prior to winning the state championship on March 26. Crabbe boasted averages of 23 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in addition to 91 percent free-throw shooting. He maintains a 3.39 GPA in the classroom. He is an active member of his church and  volunteers locally as a youth basketball coach. So who is Allen Crabbe? He is the grandson of Apostle Price.

The entire Price Family along with the members of Crenshaw Christian Center are very proud and we wanted to share this special news with all of you. Thanks for your support!

Recipe of the Month: By Michael Evans- CCC Member

This month, instead of a just another recipe, I thought I’d share with you information my wife and I recently received on where the food we eat comes from, how it’s processed and how to avoid food borne illnesses. These recommendations may seem harsh and maybe to do them all might be. But, if you at least attempt to do some of them, it may just save your life.

10 Simple things you can do to change our food system.

  • Stop drinking sodas and other sweetened beverages - You can lose 25 lbs in a year by replacing one 20 oz soda a day with a no calorie beverage (preferably water).
  • Eat at home instead of eating out - Children consume almost twice (1.8 times) as many calories when eating food prepared outside the home.
  • Support the passage of laws requiring chain restaurants to post calorie information on menus and menu boards. - Half of the leading chain restaurants provide no nutritional information to their customers.
  • Tell schools to stop selling sodas, junk food and sports drinks. - Over the last two decades, rates of obesity have tripled in children and adolescents aged 6 to 19 years.
  • Go without meat one day a week or eat meat that’s been pasture fed. - An estimated 70% of all antibiotics used in the United States are given to farm animals.
  • Buy organic or sustainable food with little or no pesticides. - According to the EPA, over 1 billion pounds of pesticides are used each year in the U.S.
  • Protect family farms; visit your local farmer's market. - Farmer's markets allow farmers to keep 80 to 90 cents of each dollar spent by the consumer.
  • Make a point to know where your food comes from—READ LABELS. - The average meal travels 1500 miles from the farm to your dinner plate.
  • Tell Congress that food safety is important to you. - Each year, contaminated food causes millions of illnesses and thousands of deaths in the U.S.
  • Demand job protections for farm workers and food processors, ensuring fair wages and other protections. - Poverty among farm workers is more than twice that of all wage and salary employees.
