Preparing for Life and Death
By Pastor Robert Cummings

Apostle Price spoke on December 27, 2009 regarding preparing yourself for life.

It is so important for each and every family to prepare for life and death. Apostle Price has admonished us with the Word of God for many, many years. With reference to his message on December 27, 2009, I encourage you to make preparations. When you are not prepared chaos, conflicts and family feuds arise. Life insurance and monies need to be set aside for emergency purposes such as death and long term care hospitalization.

Many of our parishioners as well as other Christians, not members of our local congregation have come to our pastoral office needing assistance to bury their loved ones, pay their mortgage payments or make their car payments. While Crenshaw Christian Center (CCC) has a policy in place for those situations, it is not the position of the local church to take on every situation where Christians neglected to prepare themselves.

Recipe of the Month: By Michael Evans CCC Member

Chef Michael’s Japanese Curry

Ingredients:
1 pkg. S&B Golden Curry Sauce Mix (Asian food section)
1-1- ½ lbs. lean beef, chicken, lamb or shrimp
1 large onion
2 fresh carrots
1 white or red potato
2 stalks fresh celery
¼ cup canola oil
Chicken stock/broth
White rice

Directions:
Cut 1 to 1-1/2 lbs of lean beef, chicken, lamb or shrimp.
Dice one large onion.
In a large skillet, sauté meat and onion in Canola oil until lightly browned, about 3 minutes. If desired, add carrots, potato, celery, or just about any vegetable you like. Discard excess oil.
Add 3 cups of chicken stock and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer until meat (and potato) is tender, about 10 minutes.
Break S&B Golden Curry Sauce Mix (roux) into small pieces and add to pot stirring until (roux) is completed melted.
Simmer the Japanese curry for another 5 minutes or so stirring constantly. (If curry sauce becomes too thick, just add water).
Pour over freshly cooked rice.
You may increase or decrease the amount of vegetables and meat in your Japanese curry mixes by as much as 50%. However, the amount of water you add should not be decreased. If the consistency of the curry stew is too thick, adjust it by adding water at the end. S&B curry roux comes ready to eat, so you've no need to add salt or pepper.

Chicken Stock/Broth:
You may want to make your own chicken stock/broth instead of the packaged or canned variety. To do so, skin one whole chicken or chicken parts. Boil skin in saucepan with 2 quarts water and 1 tsp. salt for 45 mins. Skim out skin and discard. Let remaining water cool overnight. Discard hardened fat on top of water. If water has turned to a gel, add additional cup of water to loosen. You have your own home made, chicken stock. Store unused stock in refrigerator as it’s as perishable as a cooked chicken would be. Use in cooking in lieu of water. (Chef Michael’s secret.)
