March 2010

The Apostle in Africa
By Adrian Evans

“This was our last week in Africa, so let me fill you in on what you missed!”

We arrived in Johannesburg on Wednesday February 3rd. Most of South Africa was preparing for the World Cup 2010, so the streets, airport, hotels, freeways, etc. were being renovated to receive guests.

Wednesday evening, Apostle Price spoke as guest speaker at the MTI graduation of Dr. Theo Wolmarans, whose church is “Christian Family Church International”, in Johannesburg. There were roughly 1,000 graduates in attendance, all of whom shook Apostle Prices’ and Pastor Wolmarans hand. The students were so excited to be graduating and just as excited to be in the presence of Apostle Price, who that evening, delivered a powerful message on Faith.

Thursday morning, Apostle Price, Dr. Betty and our entourage were caravanned to one of Apostle’s sons in ministry, Reverend Jones Xola Nzo of “Change Bible Church”. I can’t describe in words how excited Reverend Nzo was to have Apostle Price at his church, but imagine a little kid on Christmas morning. Apostle Price kept with his teaching on “What Faith is” for a group of diehard pastors, teachers, ministers, apostles, bishops and anyone else who desired to attend. Even in the heat and a temporary power outage, Apostle Price maintained the same enthusiasm and energy he has in his own pulpit.

America I AM

Tavis Smiley popular host of the award winning PBS late night talk show of the same name visited CCC on Sunday, Feb. 28 to encourage members to visit the "America I Am: The African American Imprint" exhibit currently at the California Science Center Exposition Park. Smiley presented Pastor Fred with a commemorative booklet about the exhibit and tickets for children in the congregation. The exhibit runs through May 2, 2010.

America I AM celebrates nearly 500 years of African American contributions to our country and the world. Through artifacts, multimedia, and programs visitors explore the influence and innovations of African Americans.

Visitors can walk past the ‘Door of No Return’; view personal artifacts and innovations of African American artists, activists and inventors; and investigate key moments in the evolution of the nation to open dialogue about our collective experience and future. America I AM along with related exhibitions, programs, and films being offered at partner institutions, fosters a greater understanding of the African American imprint and recognizes our shared human experience.

Learn more about the exhibit at americaiam.org, or follow it on Facebook and Twitter.

Admission to the programs is free, but registration is required. Please call (213) 744-2024 or visit www.caamuseum.org for more information and registration.

We invite you to take advantage of the “fresh produce market” for all Sundays in March.  “Having a Healthier Lifestyle includes Wellness of the Mind, Body and Spirit.”  Good nutrition is the foundation for good health; and increased consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables plays a key role in this!  So, take some time out after service to visit the Sunday Grocer for a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables at a modest cost.  And let us know what you think.  This is a joint project of CCC & VVCDC brought to you by “Fresh Hope” and “So Fresh Markets.”

Dr. Betty is launching a new project for CCC members who have a need for clothing.  We are asking you to donate brand new clothing (with the tags still on it) for men, women, or children.  Please bring these first items on Sunday, March 14th.  If everyone brings something new, we’ll have enough to open our Lordstrom’s Clothing Boutique. Pick up a flier for more details.
