The Lord Wants More Worship
By Minister Gail Riley

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1

The Lord wants us to worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24.) God is a Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth.

One of the definitions of worship found in the Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary 10th edition is: extravagant respect or admiration for or devotion to an object of esteem.  Our God is extravagant in all He does—tthat is His nature; therefore, our worship of Him should be extravagant.

Worship is a deliberate sacrificial act, Hebrew 13:15 states: Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God that is the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name. This verse describes praise as a sacrifice from the fruit of our lips.  Praise and worship are similar yet different.  The Hebrew word for worship shachah pronounced (shaw-khaw) means to depress, i.e. prostrate (especially reflex in homage to royalty or God: bow (self) down, crouch, fall down (flat), humbly beseech, do (make) obeisance, do reverence, make to stoop, worship. Most of the adjectives describing worship are positional; thus, worship entails positioning our bodies in humbling ways.

Family Network Interest Group - K-1 Go- Karts

Kevin Hypolite has been a long, faithful member of Crenshaw Christian Center for more than 20 years. Everyone in his family has been involved in the ministry from counseling, to helps ministry, to ministering the Word.

In 2006, Kevin experienced shortness of breath. After several trips to the doctor, an angiogram indicated that his main aortic heart valve was leaking. He would need immediate open heart surgery to replace this issue. The 7 1/2 hour surgery was a success. He was off from work for 3 1/2 months to heal and recover. Since that time, he has been working to keep his body fit and chest strong. In 2007, he started kart racing. "Although it was a little hard at first, I fell in love with racing karts and the competition," says Kevin. Although there is a potential of getting hurt or injured, Kevin makes sure he is well-protected from head to toe with top-of-the-line equipment. Kevin says, "Apostle Price is not a quitter. My pastor is not a quitter. My family are not quitters, and I'm not a quitter." He began solo open kart racing in Anaheim. He started off racing solo, to concentrate on his race lines without interruption, to perfect his hobby. He eventually began racing in open events in wheel-to-wheel competition. Currently, he one of the top racers on the kart racing scene. He finished last year wining 70+ open races out of 88, and coming in 2nd or 3rd in 98% of every race. Today, he is the group leader of the
K1 Kart Racing Activity Group here at CCC. He is currently sponsored by several corporations including: Go Pro, SPY, Oneal Racing, and SixSixOne. Recently he has been blessed to be sponsored by a major worldwide sponsor, Monster Energy Inc.

Monster Energy is a major sponsor of extreme sports including Monster Energy Supercross, Drifting, Skateboarding, Jet Skiing, Motocross, Freestyle Motocross, X Games and Snowmobile Racing, among others. The corporation sponsors the elite athlete, who posses something special in their racing ability, and are a step ahead above the next racer.  Although it's not a full sponsorship, he does get major discounts on all Monster Energy equipment, events and activities.

"It's a blessing to be recognized by a major sponsorship as big as Monster Energy,” Kevin says, “There are so many athletics who would give almost anything to be sponsored by this company." He gives all praise to the Lord for giving him the strength and ability to perform on such a high consistent level. Kevin says, "You can do whatever you put your mind and body to do. With the Lords help, you can rise above anything you can think or imagine."  Praise God!

    Member Spotlight: Lauren Mathews

Lauren Mathews has been a member of CCC for 16 years and is alumni of Frederick KC Price III Schools. “Everywhere I go, people know that I’m special; that I’ve grown up in an extraordinary manner far different than the ordinary person. I was privileged to learn and mature with the spiritual guidance provided by Dr. Price and CCC, and the academic knowledge given by FKCP III Schools,” says Lauren. “With that sort of cultivation, I have no other option but to be a strong, confident, and driven woman destined for success in every aspect of my life.”

Lauren attended FKCP III Schools, beginning at 4 years old and graduating from 12th grade as valedictorian in 2005. During her time at FKCP, she participated in student council, class government, the newspaper staff, track, and cheerleading. After graduating from FKCP, Lauren went on to attend Stanford University on a full academic scholarship. She graduated from Stanford with a major in Political Science, and a minor in Urban Studies. At Stanford, she had the opportunity to conduct extensive research with the King Institute which publishes books detailing the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr.  coordinated several charity fashion shows that donate the funds raised to Doctors Without Borders; and interned at the Police Assessment Resource Center, which generally investigates wrongful actions of police agencies in the Los Angeles County.

She now works for MySpace of the Fox Interactive Media Group as a Product Analyst. She plans to attend law school in the Fall of 2011.

“Although my degree is in Political Science, I have always had a passion for fashion,” notes Lauren. “I recently started a fashion blog at http://laurenmathews.wordpress.com, where I detail my daily outfits, highlight fashion trends and what’s going on in the world of fashion.” She does not have any specific fashion plans, but at the moment simply enjoys having a voice about such a passionate topic and having an audience.

Recipe of the Month: Chef Michael's Gumbo

Gumbo is a stew or soup which originated in south Louisiana. It consists primarily of a strong stock, meat or shellfish, a thickener, and the vegetable "holy trinity" of celery, bell peppers, and onion. Gumbo is often categorized by the type of thickener used: the African vegetable okra, the Choctaw spice filé powder, or the French base made of flour and fat, roux. The dish likely derived its name from the native word for either okra (ki ngombo) or filé (kombo) :

      Ingredients:
      3/4 cup Canola oil
      ¾ cup all-purpose flour
1 ½ cups finely chopped onions
¾ cup finely chopped green bell peppers
      ¾ cup finely chopped celery
      2 tablespoons minced garlic
      8 cups Chicken Stock
      ¼ teaspoon dried thyme
      2 bay leaves
½ lb. Alaskan King Crab meat
      2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
      1 tablespoon salt
      ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 pound 21/25 shrimp, peeled and deveined
      1 pound chicken
      1 lb. sausage
      ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
½ cup chopped tender green onion tops
      1 pkg. frozen, chopped okra
White rice, to serve gumbo over

      Directions
Place an 8-quart stockpot over medium heat and add the oil. Allow the oil to heat for about 5 minutes and then add the flour to the pot. Stir the oil and flour together with a wooden spoon to form a roux. Continue to stir the roux for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the color of milk chocolate. Add the onions, bell peppers and celery to the roux and stir to blend. Stir the vegetables for 5 minutes and then add the garlic. Cook the garlic for 30 seconds before adding the chicken stock to the pot. Season the gumbo with the thyme, bay leaves, Worcestershire, salt, okra and cayenne.

Season the sausage, shrimp and the chicken with salt, pepper and garlic powder and sear in a separate sauté pan until brown. Stir the sausage and chicken into the Gumbo. Bring the gumbo to a boil and lower the heat to a simmer. Continue to simmer the gumbo for 1 hour, skimming the foam and any oil that rises to the surface.

Stir the shrimp and crab into the Gumbo and cook for 5 minutes, stirring often. Taste the gumbo and season if necessary.

Garnish with the parsley and green onions and serve in shallow bowls over white rice.

      Makes 3 quarts, 10 to 12 servings
